A routine security checkpoint along the busy Sokoto-Gusau Road turned into a significant counterterrorism breakthrough this week when troops of Sector II, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, intercepted a suspected logistics supplier allegedly linked to terrorist groups operating in Nigeria’s North-West.

The suspect was arrested on Wednesday during a stop-and-search operation in Zamfara State, leading to the recovery of a large cache of military-style equipment and electronic devices believed to hold intelligence value.

Details of the operation were contained in an operational report made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday.

According to the report, the suspect was travelling in a Honda Civic vehicle when troops conducting routine checks made the discovery.

The army said the vehicle contained a significant quantity of tactical items carefully concealed from plain sight.

“Items recovered from the suspect included 150 pairs of combat boots, three jackknives, three electric shockers, a tear gas canister, a military beret and a belt.

“Troops also recovered two Android mobile phones, an iPad and a digital wristwatch believed to be of intelligence value,” it said.

Security experts have long identified logistics and supply chains as critical enablers of terrorist and bandit operations. The recovery of such a large number of combat boots has raised concerns about the scale of support networks that continue to sustain criminal groups across the region.

Military authorities described the arrest as a major success in ongoing efforts to disrupt the movement of equipment and supplies to armed groups operating in the North-West. By targeting logistics channels, security forces aim to weaken the operational capacity of criminal elements and reduce their ability to carry out attacks.

According to the report, the suspect remains in military custody and is undergoing further investigation, while all recovered items have been secured as exhibits.

The operation also highlights the increasing role of intelligence-led checkpoints and stop-and-search activities under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, a security campaign designed to restrict the mobility of terrorists and deny them access to critical resources.

Reaffirming its resolve, the military said the operation demonstrates the effectiveness of intensified security measures currently being implemented across the region.

The Armed Forces of Nigeria reiterated their commitment to maintaining pressure on terrorist groups and their collaborators as part of broader efforts to restore peace, stability and security in Zamfara State and the wider North-West.
