The Kaduna State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has issued a stern warning to contractors, construction firms and residents against damaging fibre-optic cables across the state.

The State Commandant, Panam Musa, gave the warning on Friday during a press briefing in Kaduna, stressing that the protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) remains a core mandate of the corps.

Musa described fibre-optic cables as vital national infrastructure, essential to communication, digital services and economic activities, noting that any damage to them poses serious risks to national security and economic stability.

He explained that destruction of fibre-optic cables is a prosecutable offence under the Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) Order 2024, warning that offenders would face the full weight of the law.

“NSCDC will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute anyone found willfully or recklessly damaging these cables,” he said.

“They are vital to our digital economy, and any disruption can have serious consequences for the country’s economy and security.”

The commandant urged contractors and construction companies to exercise due diligence and extreme caution during excavation and construction works, especially in areas close to fibre-optic installations.

He also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or acts of vandalism to the NSCDC or other security agencies.

Musa reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding critical infrastructure in Kaduna State and ensuring that anyone involved in vandalism or sabotage is brought to justice.
