Emeka Ike: Love Is Not a Scam, Relationships Built on Financial Gain Are
Veteran Nollywood actor Emeka Ike has said love and marriage are not scams, insisting that relationships only become deceptive when they are driven by hidden financial motives.
Speaking in an interview with BBC News Pidgin that gained traction on Friday, the actor said genuine love should be founded on sincerity, trust and commitment rather than personal gain.
According to him, some people enter relationships solely to benefit financially, a practice he described as fraudulent.
“Love and marriage are not scams. The problem is when people use relationships as a means of survival or financial gain without their partner knowing,” he said.
Emeka explained that deception begins when one partner conceals their true intentions, adding that pretending to be in love for material benefits undermines the sanctity of relationships.
He urged Nigerians to preserve the values of love and commitment, stressing that love remains the foundation of every healthy and lasting relationship.
The actor also advised women not to let social media shape their expectations of marriage, noting that every relationship is different and requires patience, understanding and mutual support.
He said successful couples work through challenges together instead of comparing their marriages with the experiences shared online.
Emeka further cautioned women against allowing opinions on social media to influence their relationships, arguing that no two marriages are the same.
He encouraged couples to focus on building trust, communicating openly and supporting one another rather than chasing unrealistic standards promoted on digital platforms.
