Troops Arrest Suspected Fake Soldier, Recover Counterfeit Army ID in Katsina

Troops of the 17 Brigade have arrested a suspected military impostor during a routine fighting patrol in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The suspect was apprehended at about 1:30 p.m. on July 4 by troops deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Malumfashi while conducting patrols within Malumfashi town.

According to security sources, the suspect drew the attention of the soldiers after he was spotted wearing a woodland camouflage three-quarter short commonly associated with military personnel.

A search of the suspect reportedly led to the recovery of a fake Nigerian Army identity card, four Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards, a woodland camouflage three-quarter short, a wristwatch and ₦17,000 in cash.

The suspect has been taken into military custody, while the recovered items have been retained as exhibits pending the conclusion of investigations.

Military sources said the arrest is part of ongoing efforts by security forces to crack down on individuals impersonating military personnel and to curb other criminal activities in the area.
