How Adamawa Crash Claims Six Lives, Including Four NYSC Members
Six people, including four members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), have been confirmed dead following a tragic road accident in Adamawa State.
The crash occurred in the Narehi area of Girei-Song Local Government Area and involved a military gun truck travelling from Gombi to Yola and a commercial Hummer bus carrying five passengers from Yola to Mubi.
According to the Adamawa State Police Command, preliminary investigations indicate that the two vehicles collided head-on, causing the commercial bus to overturn and burst into flames.
Police spokesperson Suleiman Nguroje said all five passengers in the Hummer bus were trapped and burnt to death after the vehicle caught fire.
Initial identification revealed that four of the victims were serving NYSC members posted to Adamawa State. Two of them have been identified as Suleuman Juliet and Usman Shuaibu, both from Kaduna State, while efforts are ongoing to establish the identities of the remaining victims.
The police also confirmed that one military personnel attached to the gun truck died in the accident.
The bodies of the deceased have been evacuated to the Specialist Hospital in Yola, where authorities are working to identify the remaining victims and contact their families.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State expressed condolences to the bereaved families, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the NYSC, and all those affected by the tragedy.
The police said investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
