The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening pilgrims’ education and spiritual readiness ahead of the 2026 Hajj exercise.

Chairman of the commission, Ismail Abba, made this known during a strategic engagement and inauguration of Islamic clerics in Abuja. The development was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by Hajiya Fatima Usara, Deputy Director of the Information and Publications Division of NAHCON.

The meeting, according to the News Agency of Nigeria, brought together 120 prominent Islamic scholars from across the country, including Prof. Mansur Ibrahim Sokoto, Sheikh Bala Lau, and Sheikh Abdulmuhyi Nasir, who represented Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir.

Others in attendance were Sheikh Abdulrahman Olanrewaju Ahmed, Sheikh Nasir Adam, Sheikh Muhammad Kabir Haruna Gombe, Sheikh Usman Usman Dahiru Bauchi, and Dr Isa Akindele Solahuddeen, among several others.

At the heart of the engagement was NAHCON’s renewed focus on pilgrims’ education and orientation as a key component of Hajj preparation.

Abba charged the clerics to support the commission in delivering intensive sensitisation programmes in multiple languages, both before departure and during the pilgrimage. He stressed the importance of equipping pilgrims with a clear understanding of the essential rites of Hajj to enable them perform their religious obligations correctly.

He also underscored the need for continuous guidance and timely responses to pilgrims’ concerns, particularly in situations that could affect the validity of their Hajj.

“The Ulama Team will also organise special prayer sessions at key locations during hajj, particularly at Arafat for Nigeria, leaders, national security, unity, peace, and economic prosperity,” he said.

The clerics, in their collective remarks, highlighted the importance of preparing pilgrims mentally and spiritually, urging them to embrace unity, sincerity, patience, and total devotion to Allah.

They further described Hajj as a deeply transformative act of worship and affirmed their readiness to ensure that Nigerian pilgrims have a spiritually fulfilling experience.
