The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) Adamawa State Chapter and the Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital (MAUTH) Yola are set to enter into a partnership to build the capacity of the hospital officials, especially in the area of effective communication.

Speaking on Wednesday while receiving the state executive members of the Institute who were on a courtesy visit in his office, the Chief Medical Director of MAUTH, Prof. Adamu Bakari Girei said such partnership had become necessary given the large number of people the hospital staff interact with daily, stressing that enhancing effective communication with critical stakeholders has become a top priority to the hospital.

Shehu Usman Aliyu, the PRO Adamawa State Chapter of NIPR in a statement quoted the Chief Medical Director as commending NIPR for its efforts in projecting a positive reputation for Nigeria at home and abroad.

“The CMD also appreciated stakeholders at all levels for providing an enabling environment that allowed him to contribute meaningfully to the hospital’s development.

“Prof. Bakari Girei lauded his predecessors for laying a solid foundation, particularly in human resources. He noted that MAUTH was now competing favourably with older, first-generation hospitals in service delivery.

“Directing all staff who had not completed their registration with NIPR to do so immediately, he pledged the hospital’s full support for the institute’s programmes and activities”, the statement said.

Earlier, the Chairman of NIPR Adamawa State Chapter, Dr. Usman Ahmad Dadah, commended the CMD for the remarkable strides in expanding and developing the hospital. He said MAUTH had attained an enviable status in both clinical services and human resource development.

Dr. Dadah outlined the institute’s readiness to train and retrain MAUTH staff in strategic health communication, crisis and rumour management, patient relations, empathy communication and digital reputation management.

The statement added that the Chairman thanked the CMD for directing staff to fast-track their membership registration. He stressed that NIPR would soon begin enforcing the practice of displaying valid registration licences, warning that organizations using unqualified public relations practitioners would face appropriate sanctions.
