Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has celebrated Chief Femi Pedro, former Deputy Governor and member of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), on the occasion of his 70th birthday.
In a congratulatory message issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, Sanwo-Olu praised Pedro as a devoted, committed, and seasoned technocrat who contributed significantly to the development of Lagos State.
Describing Pedro as a visionary and selfless leader, Sanwo-Olu highlighted his remarkable achievements during his tenure as deputy governor under then-Governor Bola Tinubu from 2003 to 2007.
“On behalf of my adorable wife, family, the good people and government of Lagos State, as well as members of the GAC, I congratulate my dear elder brother and former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Otunba Femi Pedro, on his 70th birthday,” the governor said.
The governor acknowledged Pedro’s banking expertise, which played a pivotal role in boosting Lagos State’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR). “As the Chairman of the Lagos State Revenue Mobilisation Committee, his team restructured, reorganised, and re-engineered the Board of Inland Revenue, increasing the state’s IGR from N300 million per month to N7 billion within 18 months,” Sanwo-Olu stated.
Reflecting on Pedro’s partnership with Tinubu, Sanwo-Olu noted that their collaborative efforts laid the foundation for Lagos State’s economic viability and global recognition. “The foundation built by Tinubu, assisted by Pedro, is what successive administrations have built on to make Lagos a state to reckon with, not only in Nigeria but at the international level,” he said.
As Pedro joins the league of septuagenarians, Sanwo-Olu wished him good health and strength to continue serving humanity. “I pray that God will give him more strength as he continues to render more service to humanity, Lagos State, and Nigeria,” the governor concluded.
