Zamfara Pays N7.3bn Gratuities to Retired Civil Servants

The Zamfara State Government has disbursed N7.3 billion in gratuities to retired local government and state civil servants. This announcement was made by Sulaiman Idris, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity, in a statement issued in Gusau on Thursday.

A committee, established in January, verified unpaid gratuities for workers who retired between 2015 and 2024 and local government pensioners who retired between 2012 and 2019. The state government has since paid a total of N7.3 billion in seven batches.

“The state government is committed to clearing the backlog of over N13 billion owed to retired local government and state civil servants,” Idris stated. He emphasized that the previous administrations’ failure to pay these benefits had caused significant hardship for the retirees.

Gov. Lawal’s administration aims to revamp Zamfara’s civil service for enhanced efficiency and effectiveness, Idris added.
